A self-guided quest on your smartphone. A bot on Telegram or MAX leads you from the Zarayskaya Baranka cafe through public gardens, along the eco-trail by the Osetr River, to the kremlin walls and back along old Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, asking questions whose answers you can only see on the spot: on steles, information boards and building facades. No guide needed, you can start at any time, and one phone is enough for the whole group.

More about this event

"The bread capital" was once no figure of speech for Zaraysk: eighteen bakeries operated in the town, and grain left from here by the trainload all the way to the Baltic. Did you know cucumbers were pickled right in the river here, and that locals wouldn't let the walls of the only fully surviving kremlin in the Moscow region be painted? This quest will take you through the ages — from the Stone Age to merchant shops — and end right where it began: over tea with Zaraysk pastries. How it works • The bot sends you a task and tells you where to go next. • You look for the answer with your own eyes, not in a search engine: it's hidden on a stele, information board or facade. • For each answer you get a short story about the place, and at most stops also an audio version. If you get stuck, take a hint: it will tell you where to look, but won't give away the answer. Route • Leonov Square: the hero who is constantly confused with a cosmonaut • Monument to the 140th Zaraysk Regiment: a coat of arms inherited from another land • Worship Cross: where the town's main relic was brought from • White Well: a food trade right in the Osetr River • Eco-trail: a platform depicting a river spot • Venus and Bison: Stone Age finds • Museum Street: what is no longer on the street • Zaraysk Kremlin: what was done to the tower but not to the walls • Sovetskaya Street: the house with a teahouse that fought vice • Revolution Square: the trace of a demolished building under your feet • Krasnoarmeyskaya: a detail of the houses that wasn't built for beauty • Ilyinskaya Church: a mural that brings you back to food again • Water Tower: what the watchman was protected from • Finale at the Zarayskaya Baranka cafe: the last tasty riddle Sample tasks • Look at the coat of arms on the stele by the regiment monument. Which town's coat of arms does its upper part match? • Look at the kremlin walls and the tower on the right. What was done to the tower that wasn't done to the walls? • Take a closer look at the water tower. What did the concrete superstructure protect the watchman from? How difficult it is The tasks are about what you see right in front of you, so attentiveness matters more here than erudition. Who it's for • Muscovites looking for a weekend getaway. • Families with children aged 6 and up and groups of friends: one phone for everyone, and tea with pastries at the finale.
