More about this excursion
Bolshaya Pokrovskaya is the central pedestrian street of the city with bronze sculptures, street musicians, and artists. It is the oldest street in the upper part of Nizhny Novgorod. It boasts merchant houses of rare beauty. We will see: - the majestic building of the City Duma; - the Drama Theater building, which is compared to the Grand Opera in Paris; - the State Bank building, resembling a medieval castle; - the Noble Assembly in the classical style, where the Manifesto on the abolition of serfdom was read; - Sverdlov's workshop; - the monument to Dobrolyubov; - the trading house of Chesnokov and Kudryashov, comparable in beauty to the Rukovishnikov Palace on Verkhnevolzhskaya Embankment; - the place where Gorky began his трудовой activity as a "boy among people" and where he worked as a journalist; - the puppet theater and others; - Minin and Pozharsky Square. You will learn about famous people associated with this street (I.P. Kulibin, A.S. Pushkin, F.I. Chaliapin, Y.M. Sverdlov, S.M. Gorky, E.A. Yevstigneyev), about great Russian photographers, how and thanks to whom the play "The Inspector General" by N.V. Gogol and the novel "Mother" by M.
