More about this event

You've surely seen the Lenin monument on Revolution Square. But did you know its pedestal is older than the monument itself and still bears bullet marks from 1918? Or that the most famous Soviet beer was first brewed under a completely different name? This quest is about stories like these: they're hidden in plain sight on facades and monuments. How it works • The bot sends you a task and hints where to go next. • You find the answer with your own eyes, not in a search engine: it's hidden in a facade, sculpture or ornament. • For each answer you get a short story about the place, in text and audio. If you get stuck, take a hint: it will tell you where to look but won't give away the answer. Route • Revolution Square: a pedestal that outlived two "owners" • Art Museum: a former bank with its own guard • House of the Noble Assembly: a building that knew how to turn into another place • Philharmonic: music without musicians and the "Chaliapin oak" • Art Nouveau Museum and church: Art Nouveau and Neo-Gothic at one crossroads • Strukovsky Garden: the city's oldest park and bronze shishigi by the water • Chapayev Monument: a frozen attack where one hero breaks the rule • Kuibyshev Square: a vast square on the site of a demolished cathedral • Drama Theater: a red-brick fairy tale with turrets from 1888 • Pushkin Square: a panorama of the Volga and travelers who have already made it • Iveron Monastery: a bell tower where time speaks in two ways • Zhigulevsky Brewery: the finale where the famous beer was born Sample tasks • In the Chapayev Monument, one character doesn't fit the general rule. Who is it? • Images of nature are hidden in the metal ornament of the Art Nouveau Museum. What are they? • At the Opera and Ballet Theater, a heroine from another world has slipped in. What object gives her away? How hard is it The tasks are about what's right in front of you, so attentiveness matters more here than erudition. Who it's for • Visitors to Samara: in one walk you'll see the old center, the Volga and the legendary brewery. • Samara locals who walk along Kuibysheva every day but have never looked closely at these facades. • Families with children aged 6 and up: searching and counting is more fun than listening to a lecture. • Groups of friends: one phone for everyone, and you can argue over who finds the answer first.
